To get the most out of any exercise routine, practice it with a friend or partner to get more out of it. There’s something about the presence of another person pursuing the same physical activity that spurs the competitive drive in all of us.

Many of us would not exercise regularly if there weren’t another person spurring us on and, in turn, relying on our support to keep at it.

There is a certain camaraderie that develops in physical activity. This may be why enrolling in exercise classes is so popular. Nobody who has a bike really needs to sign up for a spinning class. But the teacher at the head of the class who eggs you on is the reason you pay good money to ride a bike indoors with a bunch of strangers. These classes and that teacher take the place of exercising with a friend.

Exercising is More Enjoyable with a Friend

But even the spinning class you attend can be a grind when there’s no one to share it with. Having a friend, colleague, partner or sibling you can chat with while exercising makes the time fly by. And the less you’re focusing on the act of exercising, the less likely you’ll be watching the clock.

Exercising with a friend also means you’re more likely to stick with the program to the point that you begin to see some health benefits.

Your daily exercise routine may provide you with the time to catch up with a friend. But it’s also doing your body a world of good. Getting in the habit of exercising with someone you enjoy hanging out with and chatting with is the best and least tedious way to get in the best shape of your life.
